You see someone
selling an NFT for double their annual pay on Twitter, and you immediately want
in. The only problem is that the best art you've ever made was a stick figure
that barely passed. You don't have to be an artist to make and sell NFTs, which
is good news.
NFTs were made to
help artists make money off their skills, but the market has grown into an
ecosystem where anyone can sell any legal artwork they own. As this ecosystem
has grown, the process has become much easier, and platforms like OpenSea have
made NFTs as easy to use as possible.
I just made and sold
an NFT, and I'll explain every step I took, from commissioning an artwork at a
reasonable price to putting the artwork up for sale.
Create or Commission Some NFT Art
I'll tell you the truth.
I made my last decent piece of art in school. Even so, my fake pop art
self-portrait was, at best passable. If you're like me, you won't want to try
to make your own NFT art. Instead, you'll want to have someone else do it for
you.
I'm not saying that
you can't make something yourself if you feel like being creative. But hiring
an artist to make art for your NFT is by far the easiest thing to do. In the
long run, you'll make more money by making NFTs than you'll be paying an
artist.
When I needed to hire
an artist, I looked at some of the best freelancing websites. By a long shot,
Fiverr has the most NFT artists. Plus, prices start at $5, so you can easily
find an artist who fits your budget.
The steps I took to hire an NFT artist on Fiverr are listed below.
Find Your Artist
Using Fiverr, search
for "NFT illustration." You can easily narrow your search by what
kind of illustration you want, how much money you want to spend, how good the
seller's reviews are, and how quickly you need your NFT. From there, you can
start picking out gigs or artists that fit the style you want.
Once you've found a
gig, look at what each freelancer offers. Because freelancers on Fiverr offer
three separate service packages for each gig, you may find that lower tiers
don't include all the deliverables or revisions you need.
Start a Discussion
Before hiring a
freelancer on Fiverr, we suggest getting in touch with them first. Click
"Contact Seller," say who you are, tell the freelancer which package
you're interested in, and give them a detailed description of what you want.
It would be better if
you also talked about the results you want. Include the size and file type for
your NFT art; we used PNG/SVG files and the artist's largest available
proportions to ensure that there would be no quality problems when we printed
our NFT.
You may request that
the artist make you a unique offer after the specifics have been worked out.
The offer isn't binding, and you may use it to contrast the several freelancers
you're thinking about. You can accept the offer from the chat window if you're
happy.
Hire a free agent
The discussion will
go to your Orders page after you accept an offer. Each order will have its page
if you deal with more than one NFT freelancer. When your freelancer delivers an
update on the project, you may view it from this page. Before the independent
contractor begins work on the finished product, you should be able to view the
final idea.
In our case,
o2brisson was very helpful and asked for our feedback along the way before
sending us a final product. This meant that we could make changes for free.
Remember that requesting free changes is against Fiverr's Terms of Service, and
not all freelancers will update you on their progress before submitting a
delivery.
You have two options
for submitting a deliverable: click I'm not ready to accept or accept it. If
you choose the second alternative, you can ask for changes or tell the
freelancer that they didn't do what you asked. Repeat this procedure as
necessary until you are prepared to accept the project or, in exceptional
circumstances, until you need platform assistance.
Our Fiverr Commissions
We were very happy
with the work that o2brisson did for us. It's a beautiful original piece of art
worth the $250 we paid. In case your budget is tight, don't worry. Fiverr has a
lot of options at lower prices, and we've hired a few of them ourselves. We
paid Karina Dewi $15 on Fiverr and got this beautiful pixel art with a few
different color options.
No matter how great a
deal of moneyy= you have, whether $15 or $1,500, you can still commission
beautiful art to mint as NFTs.
How to Use Fiverr to Hire an NFT Artist
Could you read all of their profile?
When you find a
performance you like, click on the artist's profile to check their previous
performances, reviews, portfolio, and standard response time. If there are
missing details or they don't have good reviews (or any), you'll know to cross
them off your list.
Before you hire an artist, you should talk to them.
This lets you know if
they're available for the job and gives you a good idea of how they'll talk to
you if you hire them. Check out our review of Fiverr to learn more about how
the site works.
You can only talk to them on Fiverr.
If you tell the
seller how to reach you, Fiverr will close your account. Even if you don't mind
taking this risk, Fiverr's customer protections won't apply if you pay for the
gig or set up work outside the platform.
Look into your rights.
When you pay for a
piece of art on Fiverr, you automatically get full ownership of it. This lets
you make one copy of this artwork, but if you want to sell more than one copy
and merchandise with this artwork on it, you'll need commercial usage rights.
Some artists may charge
you extra for this, but if it's not included in the concert extras, you'll need
to get in touch with the performer to find out whether they sell it. If they
provide you with commercial rights and the paid for your engagement, make sure
you obtain it in writing.
Do your homework.
Don't just choose the
first freelancer who looks good to you. I think you should look through gigs
for a few days and make a short list of artists you want to work with.
Stay in touch.
It would be best if
you treated your freelancer with the same level of respect that you expect from
them. Answer their questions quickly so they can finish your project on time.
If you're happy with their work, don't forget to give them a good review.
